PrimeQ has moved the back-office functions of the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) to the Oracle Cloud in New Zealand, in a move designed to free up frontline resources.
Through leveraging the expertise of the cloud specialists, the EPA aims to use cloud technologies to save time, free up resources and inform better decision-making within the organisation.
Specifically, PrimeQ has implemented an Oracle Cloud Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system across the EPA including financial management, procurement and reporting.
“Moving to the cloud gives the EPA a greater focus on our core work of protecting the environment and enhancing a safe and sustainable way of life for all New Zealanders,” EPA general manager of finance and systems, Philip Lim, said.
“Our new system has freed up resources by removing the significant cost and requirement to buy, run and maintain a centralised on-premise IT system, with the ability to scale and grow to suit our evolving business needs.”
According to Lim, key benefits included no capital investment costs in terms of future upgrades and enhancements, backed up by a lower range of specialist IT support staff required in-house.
In moving to the Oracle Cloud, Lim said EPA also has the potential for greater functionality both “now and in the future”, with employees now able to run projects and billing within the wider business.
“The EPA’s previous accounting software was managed primarily by our finance team,” Lim added. “The new system provides greater visibility across our organisation, allowing access to real-time information in easy-to-understand formats.
“This will allow the finance team to work more closely and collaboratively with our wider organisation, creating greater understanding and accountability within the EPA for the financial impacts of our operations and decisions.”
Lim said the EPA has implemented Oracle Cloud technology under the New Zealand Government’s Oracle Software Framework Agreement.
The pan-government agreement allows eligible agencies to implement Oracle Cloud technology under standardised terms.

The deployment follows the appointment of former Fonterra director David MacLeod as director of the PrimeQ Group and chair of the PrimeQ New Zealand Advisory Board.
